Gymkhana Comes to Australia.

The Gymkhana series has been one of the most-watched automotive franchises on the internet since Ken Block launched it. Travis Pastrana brought it to Australia for the first time with Gymkhana: Aussie Shred, produced by Hoonigan. The film needed locations that could hold high-velocity stunt sequences, get permitted quickly, and look genuinely Australian on screen.

Garrett worked with the Hoonigan locations team through an extensive scout across the Gold Coast and Brisbane before the focus settled on Sydney. The Rocks, one of the oldest and most photographed precincts in Australia, became the centrepiece for the Sydney sequences.

Permitting High-Velocity Stunts in a Heritage Precinct

Getting a stunt car through The Rocks at speed is not a standard permit application. The precinct has heritage protections, heavy foot traffic, and tight surrounding streets. The sequences needed proper closures, safety rigging and coordination with multiple authorities. Garrett had the existing relationships to make that happen.

The production also required scouting and assessing multiple Gold Coast and Brisbane locations that ultimately didn't make the cut. That groundwork was as much a part of the job as the Sydney filming itself.

What Third Eye Delivered

  • Location scouting across Gold Coast, Brisbane and Sydney
  • Heritage precinct permits for The Rocks sequences
  • High-velocity stunt location management
  • Council and authority liaison across multiple jurisdictions
  • Road closures and safety coordination
  • Wrap and location reinstatement

The Numbers

Gymkhana: Aussie Shred passed 12 million views worldwide and counting. For a location-driven production of this kind, those numbers reflect the quality of what was opened up. Hoonigan's audience knows the difference between a location that was genuinely unlocked and one that was settled for.

"Garrett worked with the experienced Locations team with extensive scouting of the Gold Coast and Brisbane and then helping manage high velocity stunts in The Rocks, Sydney. This film was viewed by over 12 million people worldwide and counting."

The Film

Gymkhana: Aussie Shred, produced by Hoonigan. Travis Pastrana across Australia's eastern seaboard. The Rocks sequences start from around the 4-minute mark.

What is the Gymkhana series?

Gymkhana is an automotive short-film franchise produced by Hoonigan (formerly DC Shoes), built around precision stunt driving at high speed. Originally created with Ken Block, the series continues with Travis Pastrana and has accumulated hundreds of millions of views across its releases.

Where was Gymkhana: Aussie Shred filmed in Sydney?

The Sydney sequences were filmed in The Rocks, the historic precinct adjacent to the Harbour Bridge and Circular Quay. Permits and closures were managed by Third Eye Locations in coordination with local and heritage authorities.

Why was scouting needed in Gold Coast and Brisbane as well?

The production team evaluated multiple eastern seaboard locations before settling on the final route. Extensive scouting across the Gold Coast and Brisbane was part of that process, assessing each location against the stunt requirements, permit feasibility and visual profile of the film.

Can Third Eye manage stunt or high-risk productions?

Yes. Third Eye has experience coordinating locations for productions with complex safety and authority requirements, including high-velocity automotive work. The permit relationships and council contacts built over 20 years are particularly relevant for this kind of work.

Bringing a High-Impact Production to Australia?

Complex permits, authority coordination and stunt-ready locations. Third Eye has done it before.
